Looks really funny especially towards the end would love to know what they were saying especially about Isam because Isam looked really annoyed at the end…lol i couldnt stop laughin when i saw the dirty looks he was flashing Waqas!!! MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
If the test on real friendship is about dealing with challenges and making hard decisions together, then I think the boys of Outlandish have passed. But they have had many years of practise.
SPEAKER:
It’s now ten years since the boys from the youth club in Brøndby Strand sent out their first album.
Their friendship was tested when they had to deal with the band and each other professionally. Now their fourth album is out, and they have managed to stay friends in spite of success, disagreements
and solo projects.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
Yeah, welcome! I got so engrossed in your great songs.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
Congratulations on your new album.
ISAM, LENNY, WAQAS:
Thank you.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
You have known each other for almost twenty years.
How would you describe your friendship, Isam?
ISAM:
Oh, good question. When you say twenty years, I’m like “damn, twenty years?”
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
Yeah, you are still young.
ISAM:
Well, our friendship is a brotherhood. We are not just friends, we are… I’d say we’re like brothers. You know… For better or worse. Through good and bad times. When we hate each other or are cool with each other, we’re still there for each other. I’m thinking family. So it’s more than just friends. There was something in the air when we started out back in Brøndby Strand that made us able to stand each other still.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
Yes, and it is a long time. Isam calls it
brotherhood, is that how you feel too?
WAQAS:
Yeah, that’s how been for us for many years. We… When we started half of my clothes were at
Lenny’s place and his clothes were at Isam’s and so on. And we borrowed each others clothes. We’ve been through a lot, both privately and career-wise. “The feeling is mutual” you might say.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
Amazing.
But when you say ‘brothers’; siblings conflict too. Siblings fight more fiercely than friends do.
WAQAS:
Exactly.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
What would you say have been the challenges in your friendship?
LENNY:
I think we took each other for granted at one point due to us working together and you fall into routines because we work and perform all the time. So at one point we were too focused on the professional side and not on the personal side. The personal side was put away. And that’s not good when the core of our music is our friendship with each other.
When we were in the studio you could tell we weren’t honest. We needed to work past that.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
But now you’re back to honesty as you say about your album as well.
ISAM:
Yeah. We were at the studio, and actually had some great tracks, but the music told us we weren’t honest to what we did. And even though we had forty tracks ready we chucked them. And there was nothing wrong with the tracks, they were cool, but there was something wrong with us. And we had issues we needed to sort out.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
Like what?
ISAM:
Like what…
I became a father. And I didn’t hear… I didn’t feel that support… And it’s a tough experience, becoming a father. And… The birth was a big thing too… So I needed my musical family around me.
And I felt I didn’t get that support, that was a wake up call for me. When I left the hospital I thought: “Something is wrong.” We needed to do something about it. Because it’s very precious to me personally. And I know the guys feel the same way.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
What did you think when he told you this?
LENNY:
It’s a little surprising, because you don’t think about it. Again, we took each other for granted. And I actually remember Waqas saying, “I think Isam needs us to let him alone”.
So you fall into routines, into a role, and put each other into them too. And they don’t always fit.
But you take your work home and that has an effect.
So I don’t think any of us thought about it, until—
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
– Until you said it out loud.
ISAM:
Exactly. Because Waqas has two children as well. Well, I only have one.

MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:

You two came by the first time. But the second time was pretty chaotic. Right after the birth I went to Rådhuspladsen to perform at the MTV Music Award show.

But it’s because we were so busy, we didn’t think along those lines. Now we had more time to reflect on our work, but we weren’t going in the same direction. So it was a wake up call.

There’s no denying it, we are Brøndby fans. I played in Brøndby, Lenny’s had an okay career too.

WAQAS:
I played one match, we lost 14-2, then I didn’t feel like playing any more.
MICHÈLE BELLAICHE:
